Halloween Fright Comes to Huntley Meadows Park

Looking for a good scare for adults, cute crafts for your little one, or a trick-or-treat through the wetland? Huntley Meadows Park and Historic Huntley are inviting you to programs that will help you enjoy the feel of fall and experience the Halloween side of the park.

The Frightful Science of Mary Shelley will be a chilling adventure for adults through exploration of Frankenstein’s animation of the dead. Dean Howarth, an educator who performs living history as The Natural Philosopher, will guide program attendees through the science of Shelley’s infamous scientist. Refreshments will be served. The program is at Historic Huntley on, appropriately, Friday the 13th of October from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The fee is $25. Register online at https://go.usa.gov/xR6uj.

Gear up for trick-or-treating through the woods and wetland by attending Halloween-themed activities, crafts and pumpkin painting at Huntley Meadow-Ween! Costumes are encouraged, and bring a trick-or-treat bag. The program is Sunday, October 22, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., for ages 3 to 15 years.  The cost is $10 per person. Register at https://go.usa.gov/xR6uW.

The third program is for craft lovers aged 5 and up. Skulls and bones make up a lot of Halloween décor, and here’s a chance to listen to what they’re telling you. On Saturday, October 28, from noon – 1:30 p.m., find out what the bones are telling you, learn to identify an animal from its skull, and hear what a skull can say about what an animal eats. Make a skeleton craft to add to your home decorations. The cost is $7. Register at https://go.usa.gov/xR6uZ.
