Tourism ministry hosting 2 events next week

To increase the number of tourists visiting the country and to create awareness about tourism among domestic and international citizens, the Ministry will be hosting two events ‘Paryatan Parv’ and ‘India Tourism Mart’ next week.

“The second edition of Paryatan Parv is being organised with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism and reinforcing the principle of “Tourism for all” in the country,” Rashmi Verma, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, said while addressing a press conference here on Friday.

The Tourism Ministry in partnership with the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) would also be hosting India Tourism Mart to provide a platform for the stakeholders in the industry to interact and transact business opportunities.

“Many countries organise travel marts which are hugely popular and the industry insiders in India were demanding for a similar mart in the country, therefore this is for the first time that such an event is being organised in the country,” said Verma.

On the confusion over the venue, Verma said that the first choice was always Ashok hotel as a lot of stakeholders would be staying in the hotel. “Vigyan Bhawan was being considered as an option as we were expecting Prime Minister or President for the inaugural ceremony which could not happen. So, now the venue has been shifted to the Ashok hotel,” she said.

Paryatan Parv would be a 12-day event starting from September 16, while India Tourism Mart would be formally inaugurated on September 17 and will continue till September 18.
