What to Cop From New York’s Best Stores This Month
We’re very much here for luxury fashion’s ever-growing availability on the web, but sometimes it takes a physical shopping spree to know exactly what you’re looking for. While we do our best to bring you the best of the e-commerce sphere’s fashion grails on Highsnobiety Shopping, here we’ve perused some of our favorite stores in the shopping capital of the world – New York – to find those pieces that really pop up close.
Highsnobiety’s Noah Thomas is no stranger to traversing New York’s subway with half a dozen shopping bags in tow. Now, we’ve tasked him with narrowing down the very best of what’s caught his eye during regular trips around Brooklyn, Soho, LES, and beyond.
“Kiko Kostadinov is one of the hottest and busiest designers in menswear right now, running his namesake main house, AFFIX, and mackintosh 0001, all while maintaining relationships with Asics and Camper. He is known for his spacey cuts, fabric selection, color choices, and his ability to make very ‘fashion’ pieces that still maintain the elements of streetwear comfort and ease. This kutch tee is a clear representation of that, and definitely one of the star pieces of his SS19 collection.”
Tape Track Pants
Comme des Garçons Shirt
“Seeing these COMME des GARÇONS shirt SS19 cropped track pants on the runway seemed like a bit of a miss, because of how high they sat on the model, but after remembering I’m not as tall as a model I decided to give them a chance, and they are the best pants I own right now. COMME pants are great for a shorter person because Rei loves a good crop.
“I also love when CDG lets you know they have their ear to the streets and decide to treat us with their variation of the trends that usually kill.”
Puma x Ader Error
“The Puma Cell Venom in collaboration with Ader Error were my favorite sneakers from this drop, and I finally got my hands on a pair at REIGN this month. The body of the Cell Venom and the multiple textures on this version make me feel like they belong on the set of a ‘Three Ninjas’ film, which is just the kind of nostalgia I’m here for.
“Puma and Ader Error have both been doing some really exciting things so them coming together make a lot of sense, and these also pair super well with my new cropped COMMEs.”
“Very rarely do I wear non-fashion sneakers, but when I saw the Adidas SC Premieres, I came back to reality and had to admit how beautiful the craftsmanship of this shoe is. It has such a great silhouette and the leather is very soft, so it has the ability to elevate any outfit without breaking the bank. These are a great alternative for any person who can’t yet get their hands on Common Projects.”
Classic Garage Longsleeve
“Collecting T-shirts is a hobby of mine, especially when they’re from obscure capsules or made by those very eclectic fashion characters that have a very arbitrary role in the industry, like Arthur Kar. He’s a Parisian rare car collector and dealer who started L’art de L’Automobile, specializing in tees and hoodies that resemble automobile and car wash merch given minor fashion elements like heavier cotton, collar play, and double hoods on hoodies.
“When I saw the collection had become available at DSMNY, I knew what I had to do. Hopefully he continues to grow and expand the brand, but either way, years from now this will still be a sick tee to have in the archive.”
Le Porte Carte Bag
“Jacquemus’ first collection has finally hit stores and looks even better in person. Simon seemed to know exactly how to speak to his male audience. Best known for his accessories, Jacquemus is one of the designers responsible for making the neck pouch trend pop off this year, and it’s only right to cop from the source of the trend.”
“Since Raf and Calvin split, I have been embarrassingly and emotionally looking at all the collections and pieces currently available just hoping to get my hands on at least one archive item I can cherish. This Oversized wool varsity is what I need; how I’ll get it remains a mystery. This is for sure my most wanted item this month and I thought I’d put it on the list for inspiration.”
Wind Baseball Cap
“For those who may not be familiar with Loro Piana, it’s a fashion house known for its fine wool textiles and classic tailoring, founded in the early ’20s.
“In 2019, where do companies like Loro Piana fit in with the current state of fashion and speak to this new younger consumer? I believe it’s by producing items like this baseball cap. It’s a top way to maintain a level of elegance even when paired with a tee, tracks, and trainers. This hat is chic, period.”
Compressed Wool Flower x Snake Eros Scarf
“I find it hard to stay away from one of my favorite Manhattan stores in LES to check out what Kapital is offering every season. This compressed wool flower scarf caught my eye for many reasons, but ultimately it’s just a beautiful thing to own. It’s not one of those scarves that will fight against cold temperatures and keep you super cozy, but rather one that acts as an ornament; an extra little something that takes your fit from here to there.”
“Yes, another Kiko item – but I had to. SS19 was so good, it’s hard to pick just one, especially as my go-to pants option is usually a pair of track pants and have been for some time now.
“I love how they look when paired with garments that should be paired with a smarter pant. The mint green accents placed throughout add to the loudness, which I find refreshing because pants deserve more credit as the star of an outfit.”
