Nepal push to tourism ties – Telegraph India

Guwahati: Nepal is looking for tourist exchange with Assam by offering attractive packages and direct flights between Kathmandu and Guwahati, officials said at a seminar here on Thursday.

Charge d’affaires, Nepal embassy, Bharat Kumar Regmi said, “Nepal has mountains, valleys and wide variety of flora and fauna like Assam. Our geographical features are similar and the rhino is found in Nepal as well. There are around 1,500 mountain peaks in Nepal, many over 6,500 metres high. Nearly 1,000 rivers flow through the country. A large number of tourists visiting Nepal can be offered a combined package tour to visit Assam and the Northeast. Tour operators from the city can tie up with travel agents in Nepal to provide services like adventure tourism.”

Regmi also said Nepal is politically stable after more than a decade. Economic growth is hovering around 7 per cent and this is the right time to invest in Nepal, he said.

Fiscal counsellor at Nepal embassy, Umakant Acharya, gave a presentation on the tourism sector, highlighting the opportunities, prospects and benefits of developing mutual packages for tourists.

He urged the business community to invest in Nepal while underlining government support and facilitation to boost business relations.

Tourism is the mainstay of Nepal’s economy and provides livelihood to many of our people, Acharya said.

Assam Tourism Development Corporation managing director Kausar J. Hilaly highlighted the importance of bilateral relationship and reiterated that Nepal was transforming into a full-fledged democracy and prosperous country.

He urged the private sector to take the lead in developing tourism ties between Nepal and Assam.

The seminar, Tourism in Nepal, was organised by Nepal embassy in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci).
