Mandy Patinkin: Witnessing the refugee crisis in Europe

Actor Mandy Patinkin is travelling in Europe with the International Rescue Committee this week to see the refugee crisis first-hand, and meet brave and resilient people at various stages of their own journeys from harm to home. Follow his path – and theirs – from Greece to Serbia and Berlin.

Day 1: Lesbos, Greece

On a return visit to Lesbos, which he first visited in November, 2015, Mandy met with refugees at Kara Tepe who are stranded here, caught in a desperate and lengthy limbo as they wait to know the fate of their asylum claims.

Day 2: The Border of Serbia and Croatia

Over 7,000 refugees are stuck in Serbia, with very few options for continuing their journey to safety. The IRC works with partners to support them. Patinkin and his wife Kathryn Grody talk about this inhumane situation with IRC’s communications coordinator for Europe, Lucy Carrigan, and his new friend, Farhad, a 13 year old refugee from Afghanistan who is one of the stranded.

Stay tuned for more updates from Serbia and Berlin.
