An energetic kindergarten teacher and mother of two from California was among those who died after being shot Sunday night in Las Vegas, according to school officials.

Jenny Parks was in her third year of teaching at Anaverde Hills Elementary School in Palmdale, California, north of Los Angeles, school officials confirmed via Facebook.

Parks was at Sunday’s country music concert at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino with her husband, Bobby, when a gunman fired on concertgoers. Parks‘ husband suffered injuries to his arm and hand.

Those who knew Parks praised her passion and the energy she brought to the classroom.

“She was so proud to be a teacher and her spirit was something to behold,” school officials said in a statement. “The students who were instructed by her knew what it was to love learning as Jenny instilled in them a sense of wonder, curiosity and excitement.

“She will be sorely missed from our lives.”

Grief counselors were available to assist students and others in the community.

A GoFundMe has been established to assist the Parks family
