Iranian official: Over 1M of tourists crossed Azerbaijan-Iran border

As many as 1.174 million people have crossed the Bilasuvar customs checkpoint in Iran’s Ardabil province this Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), governor of Bilasuvar district of Ardabil province Hasan Gobadi said, Trend reports via IRNA.
Some 1.05 million people of this amount were tourists, foreign citizens, mostly Azerbaijani citizens, he noted.
He said that 85 percent of tourists (993,000 people) went on foot and 180,000 people passed the Bilasuvar customs checkpoint by using various transport means.
He added that 54,000 trucks, 2,000 buses and 17,000 cars entered Iran during this period.
In comparison with the same period last year, there was a 33-percent decrease in the number of trucks, 9 percent decrease in the number of cars and 7 percent decrease in the number of buses.
“During this period, a total of 311,000 tons of products were exported from Bilasuvar customs checkpoint to Russia, Azerbaijan and Georgia by 13,700 trucks, and this is a 107 percent increase over the same period last year,” he said.
He added that 24,300 tons of goods were imported to Iran via Bilasuvar customs checkpoint by 1,113 trucks during the ten months of this Iranian year.
He said that ceramic, potatoes, various glassware and building materials, salt, bitumen and particle board are mainly exported, while cotton, various se, animal feed and artificial fiber are mainly imported.
