Denver Art Museum will feature Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera in a Mexican Modernism exhibit

In fall 2020, the Denver Art Museum will host the traveling exhibition “Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection” for a three-ish-month run.

The show will feature more than 150 works and will examine the role of art, artists, indigenous culture and their supporters in the wake of the Mexican Revolution, and explore the ways the Mexican modernist movement contributed to a national identity. Other featured artists will include Lola Alvarez Bravo, Gunther Gerzso, María Izquierdo and Carlos Mérida.

“With the centennial anniversary of the end of the Mexican Revolution upon us, we look forward to presenting an exhibition that highlights this vital period in history through a variety of artistic mediums,” Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director at the DAM, said in a statement. “This is the first time we will showcase more than 20 artworks by the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, which include paintings and drawings.”

Organized by MondoMostre, a global exhibition organizer based in Rome, and curated locally by Rebecca Hart, the Vicki and Kent Logan Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the DAM, the show will open Oct. 25, 2020 and run through Jan. 17, 2021. Tickets are not yet on sale. Pricing and availability will be announced later.
