The glitzy Riley Rose store at The Shops at La Cantera has closed.

The beauty boutique, an offshoot of clothing retailer Forever 21, opened the San Antonio store in November 2017. It sells an assortment of makeup, skin care, hair and home décor products online and in its stores.

“As we develop the Riley Rose brand, learn more about our customer (demographics) and what brick and mortar locations work best, we have made the decision to close the La Cantera Riley Rose location,” a spokesperson for Riley Rose said in a statement.

“We look forward to an exciting 2019 as we open new locations that align closely with our revised real estate strategy,” they added.

Riley Rose has more than a dozen stores across the U.S., including one in Frisco, its only remaining Texas store. The brand plans to open a flagship store at Penn Station in New York, a spokesperson said.

The concept for Riley Rose was developed in 2017 by Linda and Esther Chang, the daughters of Forever 21’s founders.

“My sister and I dreamt up our ideal ‘one stop shop’ where we could discover and play with new products and trends with our friends, in the most inclusive store environment,” Linda Chang told Teen Vogue in a 2017 interview. “Riley Rose will offer a unique shopping experience — a true lifestyle destination featuring not only sought-after beauty essentials, but home decor and accessories too.”

Forever 21 announced later that year that it planned to open Riley Rose stores at 13 of GGP’s regional shopping centers. Brookfield Property Partners took over GGP last year, and the company’s retail arm manages The Shops at La Cantera.
