Leander 55+ Community Invited To Activities Throughout January
LEANDER, TX — Leander Parks and Recreation invites the 55+ community in Leander and surrounding areas to its planned events, activities and trips organized throughout the month featuring recreation and leisure activities, health seminars and hobby talks taking place around Texas. Most program’s activities are scheduled in the Leander Library Annex Room C off 1011 S. Bagdad Rd., and day trips departing from Bloe Park off 601 S. Bagdad Rd.
There is no cost for becoming a member, and those interested in joining may inquire at the Parks and Recreation Office located at 406 Municipal Dr., Leander, TX 78641 for more information or

Friday, Jan. 10 from 8:00 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Pace Bend Hiking Trip (Austin)
Strap on your hiking boots and hit the trails as we travel down to a nature preserve right next to the City of Austin. Pace Bend is situated on a peninsula in Lake Travis and features 9 mines of shorelines along with over 11 miles of hiking trails. Active Adults will bring a packed lunch for a picnic within the park and can expect to hike between 2-4 miles.
Monday, Jan. 13 from 9:00 a.m. – 2 p.m.: State Capitol and Bob Bullock Museum Tours
Learn about the history of Texas at the Capitol building with a guided tour through the hallowed halls. Afterwards the Active Adults will travel down the street to the premiere Texan museum, the Bob Bullock Museum, where you will learn everything from prehistoric to current history. Lunch will be had at the café inside the Bob Bullock Museum. Fees for the museum are $11 for 65+ or $13 for all others and lunch will average $10-15 for a meal and drink.
Friday, Jan. 17 from 9:00 a.m – 3:00 p.m.: Bluebonnet Café and Downtown Burnet
Explore the Hill Country while sharing stories over excellent food as the Active Adults travel out to the city of Burnet. Active Adults will have free reign to visit the shops of Downtown Burnet and then the group will head over to the famed Bluebonnet Café for country cooking and the best pies in Texas. Lunch will average $13-18 for meal, drink and tip and Active Adults are recommended to bring bags to hold all their souvenirs!
Thursday, Jan. 23 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. : Painted Churches of Texas
Travel south to town of Schulenburg, Praha, Dubina, High Hill, and Ammannsville to visit works of art in the form of hand-painted church interiors from communities that migrated from the Old Country. These “Painted Churches” were all hand build by various Czech and German communities that immigrated in the early years of Texas and were built to resemble their churches back home. The fee for this trip is $10 cash and will be collected on the day of. Lunch will be had in Schulenburg at a country buffet and Active Adults can expect to pay $15 for a meal and tip.
