JAKARTA, April 27 (Xinhua) — Indonesia’s West Java province capital of Bandung plans to resume the Asia-Africa Carnival on Saturday, expecting to further promote friendship among countries through cultural performances.
“The Asia-Africa Carnival would reflect how close the relations between the participating nations,” Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said here on Friday to comment on the upcoming event.
The fourth carnival held in the city that hosted the historical congress of Asian and African nations in 1955 would now be participated by domestic performers as well as from 15 foreign countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, India, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Britain, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Poland, Azerbaijan, Tunisia and Somalia.
The carnival, themed “Respect to Diversity”, would pass through 1.3 km of route around Bandung’s old neighborhood where the congress was held.
The organizer would also stage a cultural performance from countries taking part in the event later at night in Bandung’s old city compound.
The cultural performance would present musical shows jointly performed by Indonesian musicians and the participating nations.
A mass run sports tourism event scheduled on Sunday would also feature the carnival with over 2,500 participants have been registered, including from foreign countries.
The event called the Unity Run would take a route of 6.3 km, to pass through Bandung’s landmark sites.
