Paris team visits Urban Planning Dept
DOHA: A delegation from urban planning sector of Paris has visited the Urban Planning Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The delegation was received by the Eng. Abdulla Al Karani, Director of the Urban Planning Department.
The delegation comprised Stephane Lecler, deputy director of urban planning of Paris city and Pierre Alain Trevelo, architect, urban designer and director of the international architecture and urban design office, said a release.
Counsellor for cooperation and cultural affairs at the Embassy of France in Qatar and director of the Institut Francais of Qatar, Olivier DESEEZ also accompanied the delegation.
The delegation visited Doha to participate in the activities of Msheireb Properties and Msheireb Museum and symposium “Doha 2022 – Paris 2024”. The delegation visited Qatar under the framework of the preparations of Paris for hosting Olympic Games – 2024 and Doha to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the desire of the two sides to exchange experiences and learn about the method of the planning process in the two cities.
Eng. Abdullah Al Karani gave a presentation using the drawings and stereotypes to illustrate the planning approach adopted by the department based on Qatar National Vision 2030 and its main points, especially those related to the sustainable development.
Explaining the developments of the planning process since the preparation of the national framework for the development of Qatar, Al Karani said that spatial plans for all municipalities were made to meet their ne and aspirations.
The concept of urban development is based on public transport, especially after the establishment of an integrated metro network covering the city of Greater Doha and the associated urban centers.
The Director of Urban Planning Department also explained about choosing places for stadiums for hosting the World Cup and the role of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy in dealing with them in future to serve the local and international community, especially needy countries that will be donated sports equipment after the end of the giant sport event.
The French delegation admired the level of scientific planning efforts based on the best modern approaches of planning and sustainable development.
The leaders of the Urban Planning Department were invited to undertake a similar visit to Paris to learn about the Parisian experience.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Turki Al Turki, Assistant Director of Urban Planning, Juma Al Sabah, Head of Urban Design Section, Jaber Al Qatiri, Head of General Planning Section, and Dr Ali A. Alraouf, Professor of Architecture and Urbanism, coordinator for development, training, research and building capability.
